Ramsgate locals are spoiled for waterside scenery — and now they're equally well served for seafood dining, with Big Johns Italian Seafood Restaurant just five minutes away in Sans Souci.
At 502 Rocky Point Road, Sans Souci NSW 2219, Big Johns has been serving the St George community since 1985. Under new ownership since January 2024, the restaurant has been reinvigorated while keeping everything that made it a local institution — epic portions, fresh local seafood, and a warm family atmosphere across 200 seats.
Seafood worth the short drive
The Big Johns Seafood Platter is the headline act — a showstopping spread of king prawns, calamari rings, local black mussels, balmain bugs, chargrilled baby octopus, local rock oysters and a whole snapper. It's designed for sharing and arrives at the table as an event in itself. Available for 2 at $198 or 4 at $298.
For something lighter, the entrée selection is excellent — Local Sydney Rock Oysters (natural, Kilpatrick or Mornay) at $29 for half dozen, Chargrilled Octopus at $30, and Garlic Prawns in a sizzling hot pot at $26 are all perennial favourites. Main course seafood options include a whole Chargrilled Snapper ($49), Barramundi ($41), Chargrilled King Prawns on mashed potato ($49.50), and the BBQ Seafood plate — calamari, baby octopus, king prawns, fish fillet, balmain bugs and mussels — at $58.
The menu extends well beyond seafood into authentic Italian pizza, pasta and mains for those who prefer to mix and match across the table.
